The federal health insurance program for: people 65 years of age or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure with dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD).

A joint federal and state program that helps with medical costs for some people with low incomes and limited resources. Medicaid programs vary from state to state, but most health care costs are covered if you qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid.

Medicaid Waiver Programs
Waiver programs allow the state to receive federal matching funds
to provide programs for home and community-based services where
federal funds are not otherwise available. Waivers may also provide funds
to provide services to categories of individuals for which
federal matching funds are not available. Medicaid waiver programs oftem
provide assistive technology devices and services, durable medical equipment
and home modifications. Many of the Texas Medicaid waiver programs
have long waiting(interest )lists.

Rehabilitation Services
The Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Program* helps people who have physical or mental disabilities prepare for, find or keep employment. Gaining skills needed for a career, learning how to prepare for a job interview or getting the accommodations needed to stay employed are just a few of the ways this program helps people with disabilities increase productivity and independence.

Independent Living Services (ILS)* program promotes self-sufficiency despite the presence of one or more significant disabilities.

DARS Division for Blind Services (DBS)* assists blind or visually impaired individuals and their families. Depending upon their goals and needs, DBS offers services to help regain independence or find a job. DBS staff work in partnership with Texans who are blind or visually impaired to get high quality jobs, live independently, or help a child receive the training needed to be successful in school and beyond. DBS envisions a Texas where people who are blind or visually impaired enjoy the same opportunities as other Texans to pursue independence and employment, and our mission is to work in partnership with Texans who are blind or visually impaired to reach their goals.

Specialized Telecommunications Assistance Program (STAP)
The Specialized Telecommunications Assistance Program (STAP) is a state-wide program that provides financial assistance to qualified disabled persons so that they may purchase specialized telecommunications devices and services that allow them to use the telephone network.
